چکیده

2ECoG provides a way for real time monitoring of brain activity. However, it is still a challenge to characterize the features of ECoG after the onset of stroke. In this study, ECoG signals were collected through implanted electrodes at four different sites on the sensorimotor cortex during middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion. It was found that within 3 minutes after MCA occlusion, amplitudes of ECoG signal at the four electrodes decreased; while . and power increased in both the affected brain region and the unaffected side. Results demonstrated that those changes correlated with stroke severity, and provided essential information for future study to validate the feasibility of a stroke severity monitoring.

An Electrocorticographic Brain Interface in an Individual with Tetraplegia

Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology aims to help individuals with disability to control assistive devices and reanimate paralyzed limbs. Our study investigated the feasibility of an electrocorticography (ECoG)-based BCI system in an individual with tetraplegia caused by C4 level spinal cord injury. ECoG signals were recorded with a high-density 32-electrode grid over the hand and arm area...

Neural Correlates of Visual–Spatial Attention in Electrocorticographic Signals in Humans

Attention is a cognitive selection mechanism that allocates the limited processing resources of the brain to the sensory streams most relevant to our immediate goals, thereby enhancing responsiveness and behavioral performance. The underlying neural mechanisms of orienting attention are distributed across a widespread cortical network. While aspects of this network have been extensively studied...

Brain-computer interfacing based on cognitive control.

OBJECTIVE Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) translate deliberate intentions and associated changes in brain activity into action, thereby offering patients with severe paralysis an alternative means of communication with and control over their environment. Such systems are not available yet, partly due to the high performance standard that is required. A major challenge in the development of imp...

A New Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous (NARX)-Based Intra-Spinal Stimulation Approach to Decode Brain Electrical Activity for Restoration of Leg Movement in Spinally-Injured Rabbits

This study aims at investigation of stimulation by using intra-spinal signals decoded from electrocorticography (ECoG) assessments to restore the movements of the leg in an animal model of spinal cord injury (SCI). The present work comprised of three steps. First, ECoG signals and the associated leg joint changes (hip, knee, and ankle) in sedated healthy rabbits were recorded in different trial...

Movement related activity in the high gamma range of the human EEG

Electrocorticographic (ECoG) recordings obtained using intracranially implanted electrodes in epilepsy patients indicate that high gamma band (HGB) activity of sensorimotor cortex is focally increased during voluntary movement. These movement related HGB modulations may play an important role in sensorimotor cortex function. It is however currently not clear to what extent this type of neural a...
